Franklin Roosevelt was born on 30 January 1882 in Hyde Park, in the Hudson Valley just over 100 miles north of New York City. His mother Sara was 28 years old. He was her only child. President Theodore Roosevelt was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906 for his help in the peace negotiations in the Russo-Japanese War. He was Franklin’s mentor.
