After serving five months on the Western Front in France, he returned in March 1916 to speak in the House of Commons in London where he was still a Member of Parliament. Winston Churchill was appointed Minister of Munitions on 17 July 1917 in a Liberal-Conservative coalition government. His role was to oversee the supply and arming of troops.
