On November 5, 1912, Franklin Roosevelt was re-elected to the Senate in the Mercury-Sun period, which ended May 2, 1914. Four months later on March 17, 1913, he was appointed Assistant Secretary of the Navy by President Woodrow Wilson. He was 31 years old.
